1 Family Communication Packet Monday November 6, 2017 Important Dates: 11/9 Career Day 11/15 Afternoon Family Conference (1pm to 5pm) 11/15 Family Council Meeting (5:30pm to 6:30pm) 11/16 Evening Family Conference (3pm to 7pm) 11/17 College Trips 11/20 Picture Day 11/22-27 Thanksgiving Break (return Tues. 11/28) Career Day On Thursday November 9, th & 6th graders, and then 7th & 8th graders will attend a 30 minute panel from professionals in fields like: Sports, Real Estate, Medical and Media. We are super excited and thankful for our panelists! Awards Assembly CIPMS First Quarterly Awards Assembly will be held on Monday November 13th from 1:55 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. for 5th and 6th grade and from 3:15 4:00 p.m. for 7th & 8th Grade. Award Winners and their families will receive a invitation in PM Homeroom on Wednesdy November 8th. If invited, Please join us in the auditorium to celebrate your scholars academic and non-academic excellence this quarter! Birthday Celebrations If you choose to celebrate your scholars' birthday in school, please notify your scholar's Vice Principal 24 hours in advanced to ensure we can help support distribution of materials and facilitate celebration. Thanks for understanding and we look forward to sharing a birthday celebration with your scholar! 8th Grade Families Only If you missed an Open House event at Coney Island Prep High School and would like a tour, please contact Ashley Williams, Director of Family and Community Engagement, at (929) or by Friday, 10/27 so she can arrange one soon. In order to tour the high school, you must schedule an appointment with Ashley Williams. Family Conferences On November 15 th and 16 th, Coney Island Prep Middle School will mark the end of the first marking period with the release of student report cards. This is a great time to visit the school and meet your child s teachers one-on-one. Wednesday November 15 th will be our afternoon session with conferences starting at 1pm and ending at 5pm. Thursday November 16 th will be our evening session with conferences starting at 3pm and ending at 7pm. Parents meet with teachers are a first-come first-served basis no appointments necessary. Family Council Our next Family Council meeting is Wednesday, November 15 from 5:30pm-6:30pm. It will start after conferences. Family Council is a great opportunity to meet other parents/guardians, to share your ideas, and discuss how to make CIPMS even better! Immunization Reminder All students 2 months to 18 years old must have their vaccinations up to date to attend child-care or school in NYC. This includes all public schools including Coney Island Prep. Here are the twp most common vaccination requirements for Middle School aged children: TDAP Required for children 11 years or older. Meningitis Students in 7 th Grade must have a single dose. Your child s vaccination record may vary. College Trips This year, Coney Island Prep Middle School will travel to colleges nearby for campus tours. These visits are during school hours, and we will travel to and from colleges via bus. 5 th Grade will be visiting Rutgers University Zimmereli Museum; 6 th Grade will be visiting Yale University; 7 th Grade will be visiting the College of New Rochelle; and 8 th Grade will be visiting Rutgers University Busch Campus. Permission slips went out on Wednesday November 1 st and are due November 8 th. Please make sure to sign and send those slips in by the due date! Picture Day This year, Picture Day will take place on Monday November 20 th in the building s auditorium. Please see attached picture day form and return with payment in a sealed envelope if you are interested in purchasing a photo package. NYCDOE and CIPMS School Schedule Unlike the DOE schedule, Coney Island Prep Middle School will have classes this Election Day on Tuesday November 7 th. Coney Island Prep will have a longer Thanksgiving Break however. The Middle School will not have classes from Wednesday November 22 nd thru Monday November 27 th. Estamos súper emocionados y agradecidos con nuestros panelistas! Asamblea de premios La asamblea de los primeros premios trimestrales de CIPMS se llevará a cabo el lunes 13 de noviembre a partir de la 1:55 p.m. - 2:30 pm. para 5º y 6º grado y de 3:15 a 4:00 p.m. para 7mo y 8vo grado. Los ganadores de premios y sus familias recibirán una invitación en el salón principal de PM el miércoles 8 de noviembre. Si se lo invita, únase a nosotros en el auditorio para celebrar la excelencia académica y no académica de sus alumnos este trimestre! Celebraciones de cumpleaños Si eliges celebrar el cumpleaños de tus alumnos en la escuela, notifica al subdirector de tu estudiante con 24 horas de anticipación para asegurarte de que podemos ayudar a distribuir los materiales y facilitar la celebración. Gracias por entender y esperamos compartir una celebración de cumpleaños con su becario! Familias de 8 grado solamente Si se perdió un evento de Open House en Coney Island Prep High School y desea un recorrido, comuníquese con Ashley Williams, Directora de Family and Community Engagement, al (929) o antes del viernes, 27/10. para que pueda arreglar uno pronto. Excursiones universitarias Este año, la Escuela Intermedia Coney Island Prep viajará a las universidades cercanas para realizar recorridos por el campus. Estas visitas son durante el horario escolar, y viajaremos hacia y desde las universidades a través del autobús. 5th Grade visitará la Universidad Rutgers - Museo Zimmereli; 6to Grado visitará la Universidad de Yale; Séptimo Grado visitará el Colegio de New Rochelle; y 8vo. grado visitarán a Universidad Rutgers - Campus Busch. Las hojas de permiso salieron el miércoles 1 de noviembre y vencen el 8 de noviembre. Por favor asegúrese de firmar y enviar esos formularios antes de la fecha de vencimiento! Staff v. Family Basketball Game Coney Island Prep tendrá su juego anual de baloncesto Staff v. Families en High School el miércoles 13 de diciembre. 6 11/2/2017 General Education Transportation Home Services & Eligibility Parents Schools Vendors OPT General Education Transportation According to Chancellor's Regulation A 801, transportation eligibility for children who are not mandated for specialized transportation because of their IEP (Individualized Education Program), is determined on the basis of the student's grade level and the distance between the student's residence and school. The table below shows how student eligibility is determined.
